Bon Anniversaire Tour Eiffel!

The magnificent Eiffel Tour celebrates it’s 127th birthday today. That’s as old as Nintendo. And Lee Jeans.

Named after it’s revered engineer Gustave Eiffel, it was erected as the centrepiece for the 1889 World’s Fair – a celebration of the centennial of the French Revolution. Gustave, a man of fine-taste, famously toasted the opening with a glass of Courvoisier cognac, firmly cementing the brand’s unique Parisian heritage and luxury credentials.

Despite initially being described as “useless and monstrous” in the famed Artists against the Eiffel Tower petition, the structure has since become an indisputable icon of French culture. Comprised of 18,000 individual iron pieces, 1,710 steps and standing a proud 324 meters tall, it is a jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, magnificent piece of structural art. If that wasn’t enough, it also used to be the tallest (and coolest) billboard in the world!

Originally intended as a temporary exhibit and narrowly escaping destruction twice, the beautiful Eiffel Tower has survived a lot. And if her marvellous craft & the precision of her build are anything to go by, we’re betting she’ll be standing in another 127 years – for our ancestors to raise a glass of Courvoisier to!
